Uber To Introduce Their Own Food Drone Delivery Service

A survey conducted earlier this year showed that most people do not trust drones to deliver their more expensive goods. There is apparently a thin line between trying this new delivery system, and sticking with the old reliable methods. For people who purchased mobile phones online, or jewelry or even computer parts, they would prefer longer waiting. What old methods, such as delivery trucks, motorcycles, and people, offer is safety. Safety and assurance that their packages will arrive without any damage. And they will arrive with no mistakes in the addresses, getting it to the hands of those who bought the items.

This survey suggests that it may be fun to get your items delivered by drone, but mistakes may happen. In exchange for a far superior delivery time, you risk the drone misplacing your item. You risk the item receiving damage from unexpected bumps while the delivery drone is flying through the streets. You risk not getting the package entirely, since these devices rely on GPS and preprogrammed data.

Uber Burger Delivery Drones:

What the survey does say is that people would consider drone delivery for cheaper things. Food, for instance. The appeal of a drone dropping on your doorstep minutes after ordering it on your phone outweighs the risks mentioned above. Also, a ten dollar pizza not arriving sounds far insignificant compared to a thousand dollar ring misplaced by the drone.

That is why food companies, some groceries but mostly fast food, are trying drones for delivery. It is a new experience, it is fast, which is the name of the game, and there’s little risk for the customer.

The cab-hailing company Uber plans on starting their own drone delivery service. Testing has already begun in the city of San Diego for drone deployment. The program is UberEats, and advertises delivery minutes after ordering. Ordering is as simple as pushing a button off your phone and the food you crave will arrive as fast as five minutes.

The UberEats during their announcement mainly focused on burger delivery. The size and shape of burgers would be convenient to small delivery drones. But who knows what the future holds? Maybe sooner than later we can order a family’s worth of food via drone, and you did not even have to leave the house.
