I am an avid adventurer. I love to explore new places and find new ways to experience the world. When it comes to travel, I like to be prepared for anything. I always have a backpack full of essential gadgets that help me make the most out of my adventures.
In this blog post, I share with you some of my favorite travel gadgets that I just can’t go without.
Portable Charger or Power Bank
I once went to the Maasai Mara in Kenya to witness the Wildebeest Migration. I was thrilled to see these majestic creatures cross the river to the neighboring Serengeti. The Crocodiles lay in wait for the unsuspecting Wildebeest, but I was more interested in capturing the event on my camera.
I didn’t realize how long I had been taking pictures until my battery died. My day of adventure was cut short with no outlet to be found. Lesson learned: always bring a portable charger.
A portable charger is a small, lightweight charger that you can carry with you wherever you go. They are perfect for charging your phone, camera, or any other electronic device on the go.
Waterproof Mobile Pouch
Sure, phones are waterproof these days – but not all of them. Losing your phone to the ocean can really dampen your trip. While vacationing on a boat rental in West Palm Beach, I dropped my phone in the water. Luckily I was able to retrieve it, but it never worked again. Many memories and important contacts were lost on that phone. Now I never leave land without my PosterGuy Waterproof Mobile Pouch.
It also offers protection from dust when traveling in desert areas, and heavy rains when trekking in rain forests. If your phone isn’t waterproof, then definitely add this to your list of travel essentials. Getting caught without a phone when you are traveling to remote areas can also be dangerous and could leave you stranded.
GPS Tracker
I never understood why my fellow hikers would bring a GPS tracker with them on hikes. I mean, isn’t the point of hiking to get away from technology and be one with nature?
One day, I explored the dense jungle of Puerto Rico with a group of friends. We got lost. And I mean really lost. We were hiking for hours, trying to find our way back to the trailhead.
Luckily we came across other hikers that had a GPS tracker. Together we were able to use the tracker to find our way back to the trailhead.
I’ve been a convert ever since. Now, I always carry my Garmin GPSMAP 66i. It is now one of my most treasured travel gadgets.
Portable Door Lock
I travel in any part of the world, including those considered to be fairly dangerous. You will find me in the deadly alleys of Mumbai or the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. I have been to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and even the war-torn countries like Afghanistan.
One thing I always make sure to bring with me is my Addalock, my original portable door lock. You never know when you might need it. I have used it in sketchy hostels, Airbnbs, and even hotels in the rougher parts of town.
A portable door lock is a small, lightweight lock that you can carry with you wherever you go. They make me feel safer when it’s time for bed.
Water Purifier Bottle
I love to hike and I often find myself in remote places, far away from civilization. Last year I traveled to Nepal to hike the Annapurna Circuit. I drank water from streams and rivers, thinking it was safe.
I got sick. I had to end my hike early and ended up in hospital. It was then that I decided never to travel again without my GRAYL’s Ultralight Purifier.
These bottles have filters that remove bacteria and viruses from your water, making it safe for drinking. They work as quickly as 15 seconds. Cartridges are replaceable and cold hold around 150 liters. It’s a smart choice for avid travelers.
Ultraportable Bluetooth Speaker
Music is the ingredient that makes me feel at home no matter where I am in the world. There’s nothing quite like listening to my favorite tunes as I watch the sunset over the horizon.
Listening to music on my phone’s speaker just doesn’t cut it in certain areas. That’s why I always travel with my goTenna Mesh Bluetooth speaker, and it fits right in my pocket.
These speakers are not only small and lightweight, but they also provide high-quality sound. Perfect for listening to music on the go. Whether I am traveling to the sandy beaches of Bali, the hidden gems of Southeast Asia, or the cold mountains of Iceland, I always bring my speaker with me.
Final Thoughts
While there are so many more gadgets I could mention, these are my go-to, easy-to-carry, and store, travel gadgets. My experiences with these gadgets have made me a better traveler. I am more prepared and I feel safer when I travel with them. They have also enhanced my travel experiences, making them more enjoyable. If you want to have fun-filled adventures as I do, then I recommend you add these gadgets to your packing list.
