Surveillance – the name alone can send chills to a person. Surveillance is a very broad term, but it boils down to one thing – someone or something is watching you. Nobody wants to feel like they are being watched. Everyone wants a bit of privacy. And in today’s modern society, privacy is an extremely rare commodity.

The idea of constant, unavoidable surveillance is a real possibility with security cameras at every corner. As you enter shops, odds are there are a few cameras hidden from view. You walk on the sidewalk, and you may find a street camera pointed at your direction. When you arrive at work, there are tons of security cameras monitoring every nook and cranny of the building. Even in private residences, your neighbors may have installed cameras at their entryways for security.
In a way, you are being watched by a variety of parties on a regular basis. That is why there is a bit of paranoia regarding cameras. More often than not, people block their laptop cameras when they do not need them. People may instinctively cover their faces when there are cameras actively filming in the area.

Drones combine a potent mix of these factors. They have powerful flight capabilities while also having access to high definition cameras. A single drone up above can have tremendous zooming capabilities.
In fact, this fear of surveillance regarding drones is more than just theoretical. In several regions around the world, drones are used to monitor public areas. Whether it is for security or some other reason, nobody can truly know.
Who is to say that the drone a few blocks away cannot see what you are doing? In residential areas, the fear of ‘being watched’ is turned up to eleven. Whether it is at one’s backyard, terrace, or living room; nobody wants the idea of someone watching from above. Flying a drone can be a fun hobby to have, however, you may have to think before letting one loose. Drones and surveillance often go hand in hand. While it may not be your reason to fly a drone, people around will always have that fear. Could the drone be spying on me? Is the drone flying around the neighborhood, watching people? Is it possible that it will be recording footage?
