With the rise of drone use among the population, there also comes an increase risk. The threat of a drone colliding with a plane mid-air goes up the more recreational drones are out there. There is also a danger of a drone injuring people around it. This can be the case when a drone flies above crowded areas like festivals or parades. One wrong move and it can come crashing down – to the unprotected people below. The spinning rotors can easily injure people that come to contact with it.
A crashing drone can also start fires upon impact. This can even be more serious if the area it crashed into has a lot of fire-hazard material. With a simple spark from the crash, it can turn into a roaring flame. Of course, there is always the threat of damage to property, since gravity always wins in the event of a crash.
Canada Tightens the Rules
The drone scene in Canada may be more safe (or less popular) starting next year after they will impose stricter regulations for recreational drones. The focus of these newer regulations would be on the airport front. The drastically increasing incidences of drones haphazardly flying around airports put thousands of lives at risk. This also creates a problem in the entire airport, as one drone can shut down all flights. When there is a risk, the airport needs to divert all incoming planes to other landing bays in the area to prevent any collisions. Outgoing planes are also frozen until the incident gets resolved. This can be a very frustrating scenario for all parties involved. From the flight crew aboard the plane, to the staff managing the airport below, to even the passengers themselves.
The risk is just far too great when it comes to a drone taking down a fully loaded plane in the air. Hopefully, the world is watching as Canada gears up their rules regarding drone use. This may be a good solution to an ongoing drone problem.
