Air pollution is a concern in many cities around the world. I am fortunate to live in Vancouver, British Columbia where the air is pretty fresh compared to many other popular tourist destinations. One of the first comments out-of-town guests make is how clean and crisp the air feels and I would have to agree with them. But there are far too many people in the world that are exposed to poor quality air and the Smog Free Tower is trying to change that one tower at a time.
The brains behind the Smog Free Tower include Dutch designer, Daan Roosegaarde, and his team of experts who have created the world’s biggest smog vacuum cleaner using patented ion technology to produce smog-free bubbles in public spaces allowing people to breathe clean air. The first of the Smog Free Tower which measures in at 23-ft and filters the surrounding air is currently in Rotterdam, NL.
The team has also launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund this new venture. Your funding will not only help launch the project but you also get a piece of that smog you helped take out of the air. The smog (carbon) particles collected are compressed to create jewelry. Each Smog Free cube literally contains the smog out of 1000 cubic meters of air. For men, there are Smog Free Cufflinks available and for women, Smog Free Rings.
The Smog Free Tower in Rotterdamn is already open for the public and is set to travel around the world. The tower currently cleans 30.000m3 per hour while running on 1400 watts of green energy. To support the project, check out their Kickstarter page as well as their website.
