With the New Year upon us, you may find yourself excited to use your drone to capture the festivities.
While a flying camera may seem like the perfect tool, you may have to think again. There are factors why personal drones are not ideal when it comes to such a festive event.
New Year and Crowds
Crowded places, for instance, can be chaotic. Flying a drone overhead can bring up several possibilities. First, rowdy members of the crowd may start throwing items at your drone. One good hit can send your drone crashing down. You may also lose sight of it because of the foot traffic in the area.
Or, it could simply bump something while flying – such as street decorations or the buildings themselves. Regardless, your drone may go down into the crowd below. This can injure people and land you in trouble. Or, it could simply crash into the pavement, destroying it.
Fireworks and Flight
Another reason not to fly a personal drone this New Year is the presence of fireworks. Fireworks will compete with your drone for air space. A single hit can send your drone crashing into the ground below.
Drones in the past have recorded fireworks – however, some planning were made to ensure the drone’s area is free. Fireworks can be unpredictable, and if you fly into their path, there is a good chance your drone will fly down the wrong way.
Nighttime Adventures
Another reason why it is not a good idea to fly a drone this New Year’s Eve is the darkness. In general, flying a drone at night is a no-no as it is harder to keep an eye on your device. It is easier to bump into things while flying and you may even lose sight of it entirely. This can lead to further complications, as nobody wants a flying camera near their homes at nighttime.
So before you fly your drone, think about it. You may save from repairs, or save yourself from landing in hot water.
