Man Uses Drone to Capture Footage of Macropredator Swimming Alongside Beachgoers

Kenny Melendez, a drone hobbyist, managed to capture stunning footage of a tiger shark swimming in the ocean scarily close to Miami swimmers.
Melendez’s drone filmed the tiger shark swimming just a few feet away from a man enjoying the ocean waves in the shallow waters of South Beach, Miami. The drone captures the shark swimming between the shore and two other visitors, without incident.

Tiger sharks are dangerous predators, growing well over 16 feet long, weighing up to a whopping 635 kilograms. It is mostly nocturnal, and eats everything from small crustaceans to other sharks.
The Florida Museum of Natural History calls the tiger shark one of the main three shark species that are behind the most attacks on humans. The great white shark has the highest number of recorded attacks on humans, though the tiger shark has the second highest number.
In 2016, there were 53 shark attacks in the United States, and 32 of them occurred in Florida. It is important to note, however, that none of the attacks were fatal, and this drone footage has helped draw attention to shark behavior around active beach goers.
