Indiana Rescue Drone Finds Missing Family Within 15 Minutes

Another win for drone responders everywhere. A drone owned by a Search and Rescue unit in Jasper County, Indiana assisted in a missing person’s case. The local Sherriff’s Office teamed up with several branches of nearby counties to locate a missing father and child. The missing people reportedly lost their way earlier that day. With no contact made in over 10 hours, the local authorities started the search.

Indiana Rescue Drone:

Luckily for all parties involved, a drone was available. They launched it around the area last seen by eyewitnesses. The drone, along with the first responders, started the search. Of course, with a drone at your disposal, you can reach farther areas. With a vantage point from the sky and a wide range, the missing father and son were found quickly.

The search lasted about 15 minutes before the drone located the two. The drone also guided the missing people to an extraction point. Here, the responders were waiting, along with medical personnel to check for any injuries.

A masterfully executed operation; no injuries or problems plagued the team. The cause of the missing fiasco was because of the father, who reported to have experienced disorientation. Both father and son were riding an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) in the woodlands of the area when the event occurred.

The fast response time negated the common problems with search and rescue. Trails usually go cold, or the missing may wander on their own. This leads to a harder time searching trails and clues by foot. An aerial view of the situation can easily solve missing reports. The elevation, combined with high definition cameras and even thermal vision, can locate people in no time. Truly, it is a great time for search and rescue. Drones increase efficiency and makes sure victims do not succumb to the usual effects of wandering. These include starvation, dehydration, and even physical injuries related to the environment.
