Over the past few years, drones have been the center of attention for a growing number of nighttime gatherings. The software giant Intel displayed their drones through several high profile events such as the Winter Olympics, as well as Coachella. These drones may soon replace fireworks as the staple for night sky displays.
The minds at Intel even have specialized drones for this particular task. The Shooting Star drones have LED lights and extremely powerful coordination programs. This makes flying up in the air hundreds at a time easy, while also avoiding collision with each other. It also creates amazingly detailed patterns and dances for the audience watching below.
These drone displays have been such a highlight that they are now the main attraction in events. While before they were merely signs of beginnings and ends for events, people now flock towards these drones to watch the spectacle.
Hong Kong Drone Cancellation
The Wine and Dine Festival in Hong Kong advertised a similar grand spectacle using drone technology. However, this time while crowds (an expected 140,000 strong) awaited the arrival and ascension of over a hundred drones, the officials of the event cancelled it.
Police came to the area for investigation. The reason for the cancellation was that the area with the drones detected GPS signal interference. It seemed that the drones themselves were tampered with, and that a mysterious and unknown third party is responsible. For the safety of everyone involved, especially the people watching below the drones, the event received cancellation. Until further notice, of course, and hopefully once the investigation finishes, the drones can fly again with no problem.
The event was to feature over a hundred drones forming the number ‘ten’ in the sky (ten for the anniversary of the event). The display was also supposed to last for a good ten minutes of bright lights in the sky.
