In a previous article, we mentioned about the car manufacturing company Porsche planning on creating drones. And not just an ordinary personal mini drone, mind you, they want a transport drone. Yes, a drone capable of transporting passengers to destinations autonomously. Times are changing and car companies are preparing for the future. You see with these big and established car companies, they don’t just go in without making a big splash. Complete with the hype, show, and media attention that comes with being a worldwide brand.
Ford’s Plan for the Future:
Another big car manufacturer is planning on getting into the drone trend. The company Ford stated in an interview this week that they are researching into the idea. They already had a team setup, apparently, in Silicon Valley. We are currently at a transition where instead of small companies making recreational drones, big companies are making their mark. Drones available to the public are getting bigger and bigger. What started as recreational drones the size of a person’s hands, we now see drones the size of taxi cabs.
Ford’s principal drone scientist, Adi Singh, had this to say: “As drone adoption accelerates, we think many of our customers will want to use these devices as part of their lifestyle, whether to pursue hobbies or even as a tool for their business.”
With their headlining statements, Ford plans on creating drones focus their attention on two fronts: delivery drones and full scale transport drones.
Similar to the other companies that aspire for a fully autonomous transport drone however, Ford admits it will take some time. Rules and regulations need to put in front, and the drone manufacturing are still in its initial phases.
One thing is for sure though. With big companies vying for the throne of “drone pioneer,” we are in store for amazing things in the future. If we look at these companies’ vehicle works as example, the quality and features of drones from this point onwards is only going to go up.
