The first automatic fire alarm was invented back in 1890 but it was not until 1965 that the general public could actually afford to have one installed in their homes. The year is now 2011 and we still have these very useful gadgets.
But the one we are about to show you is not what your grand daddy owned. The FireText Smoke Alarm will text message you as soon as smoke is detected in your home. This smart smoke alarm is capable of sending a text message up to four phone numbers at once almost guaranteeing that you or someone you know gets the message.
The only difference between this smoke alarm and others is that the FireText Smoke Alarm features a slot for a SIM card. Oh and the fact that you now know that your house is being burned down while you were away and relaxing on a nice vacation. If my place burns down and I’m away, I’d rather not know until I come back home. Am I right?
The smoke alarm is powered by a 9v battery just like any other smoke detector. The FireText Smoke Alarm will set you back ~$144 (£89.99) plus the cost of SIM and any charges that may apply from your phone company.
On a side note, I’d like to see one that also Tweets and updates all your Facebook friends. Something to consider for future models?
The text messaging feature is interesting, but I think your idea of a Facebook or Twitter post would be even better. Most of my friends and followers would call 911 for me…I hope.
