Looks like more trouble for drone owners everywhere because of a few bad apples. The most recent incident revolves around a drone spotted at Fenway Park this week, during a heated game. Fenway Park is a very popular sporting event location in Boston, USA. This particular day, a baseball game was taking place when a special onlooker was spotted.
Fenway Park Incident
The civilian drone hovered around the area, above the spectating crowd and players alike. It caused a bit of a distraction, but that is not the end of it. Regulations regarding public events, especially in stadiums, require drones to stay away during the event. Civilian drones cannot fly over, around, or inside the stadium from one hour before and until one hour after the event takes place.
Something to Think About
Flying over a crowd is also prohibited, as it can cause distractions as well as injure people if it flies too low. One good hit can also take down a drone. With an unpredictable crowd, it is not too far of a leap in thinking one may think of throwing something at it. A crashing drone can hit people directly, and could even start fires if the pieces break off.
Aftermath
During the event at Fenway Park, police were called to the scene however, no owner was found. It is the same case as in airport incidents regarding drones, sadly. After all the chaos a drone brings, the irresponsible owner never receives any penalties, as they are long gone before police arrive to investigate.
The only thing authorities can do is to reiterate drone regulations to the public. This is in an effort to prevent future incidents from happening, especially around Fenway Park. Will these repeated public reminders work however? Or will the freedom to fly and get away without repercussions too thrilling to pass up?
