China is home to massively popular drone companies such as DJI and Ehang. The drone revolution is flying high in the Asian country. Their recent stunt solidifies their position even more as the drone center of the planet. We have witnessed highly colorful and coordinated drone sky displays, which are already challenging fireworks as king of night celebrations. We have a ton of highly diverse recreational drones on the market all thanks to the companies mentioned above. Now, a new drone plans to dominate a rather growing industry – the delivery drone world.
Feihong 98 Cargo Drone
This week the joint efforts of China Academy of Aerospace Electronics Technology and SF Express created world’s largest cargo drone. Well, drone may not even be an accurate description for it. The creation is more of a plane without a pilot – an autonomous carrier that can lift up to 1.5 tons of cargo. Yes, in a world where delivery drones can only lift a kilogram of small items, this behemoth called Feihong 98 stands out unchallenged.
Feihong 98 took its maiden voyage last October 16. It took off and landed without any problems, which is a great sign for those invested in its cargo carrying capacity. You see, it is one thing to carry a ton of cargo. It is also another different thing to actually deliver the item without any damage or delays.
Here are some more specs for this one-of-a-kind drone:
- Can reach speeds up to 180 kilometers per hour
- It can reach nearly 15,000 feet
- And yes, it is 100% unmanned
These are highly impressive stats on their own, but combine them and put them inside a massive drone? Now you have a winner in the making. Sure, there may still some flaws needing attention, more testing done, but the initial results look very promising indeed.
