A miniature drone may just be the next big thing in aerial drone photography. The Fairy Drone promises a wide array of photograph possibilities – while being small enough to fit in your pocket.
As of this very moment however, this Fairy Drone is still in fairy tale land. Miles and miles away from reality. It’s still a concept – no mass productions as of yet. So far you can only see the crowdfunding page on Kickstater for this project. Like many drone concepts before this, it may take some time – if ever – to actually get one in a store near you.
Their Kickstarter plea moved people’s heads though. It currently has nearly $100,000 in funds and over 800 people backing the project. So for most Kickstarter projects, this particular one is having a great start.
A Fairy That Can Take Pictures:
As for the drone itself, it can fit at the palm of your hand. This means it can be as portable as you want without lugging around a large case for its base. Another in this category is that the drone is extremely light. Weighing only at 140 grams, even a child can carry this drone without any problems. Having to bring it from point A to B will not be a hassle to say the least.
For the drone itself, it is a quadcopter that can fly for a full 16 minutes. May not sound like much, but for a mini drone designed for photos and videos, it can be more than enough. It has a 1080p camera, perfect for recreational aerial photography.
But the best selling point for this drone is its user-friendly design.
The minds behind this drone is a Shenzhen-based company called Simtoo. They see the Fairy Drone as the “starter drone” that can engage new users into going deeper. Because of this, the drone advertises “newbie-friendly” features such as auto tracking, auto return, and of course, a basic easy-to-learn control system. This means anyone can learn the basics quickly, and the drone can do the rest. It can hover around you, taking photos and videos while you go do your thing. It has an autonomy to it, all the while being able to dodge obstacles while still keeping an eye on you.
Another upside is that this drone does not require FAA registration. In today’s world where owning a drone is becoming more and more of a hassle with paperwork, this drone can be a good choice.
So if you are ever on the fence regarding owning a drone for your video and photo needs, the Fairy Drone just might be the one you need. Of course, like I mentioned earlier, the drone is still in its early stages. You may have to wait a year or two to see this in action yourself.
