Sometimes you just want to get away from it all. I feel like that all the time and the ideal place for me would to be out in the middle of nowhere in a wooden cabin that’s only feet away from a lake surrounded by forest, mountains, nature, and of course no people. Although a cabin would be ideal, I also like technology and the Ecocapsule is something that would be up for consideration.
The Ecocapsule has the best of both worlds as it’s intended to be used in remote locations yet it’s also a very smart micro-home. This Ecocapsule is a 14’x7’x7′ living pod considered by many to be a truly independent micro-home powered entirely by solar power and wind power. It weighs in at 1500 kilograms and is compact enough to be taken virtually anywhere including hitched to remote locations, shipped by air, and also fits into a standard shipping container.
Ecocapsule Kitchenette & Living Space
This low-energy home features running water, working toiler and shower, kitchenette, inside/outside storage, and a comfortable bed for two adults. The Ecocapsule features an arrangement of solar cells on the roof and a built-in wind turbine to collect energy and store the electricity in a 9.744 kWh battery. That battery should hold you over when the sun is shy and the breeze is no where to be found.
The spherical shape is also used to help collect rainwater and then stored in a tank underneath the floor. The upper surface of the dwelling features membrane water filters which filter the rainwater. The walls also have high performing thermal insulation padding helping to reduce energy usage and maintaining a comfortable temperature.
You have everything you need in a small space and you can perhaps use satellite to stay in touch with family and friends when you get lonely. The only thing missing is a fireplace….I love fireplaces! You can find more information about the unit over at the Ecocapsule website.
