There seems to be a development in the ongoing war between nature and technology. It seems a drone collided with an eagle, and it turns out, technology still has a long way to go.
Eagle Strike:
A Youtube video is making rounds this week after it captured the epic clash between the two forces. The eagle attacked a drone while flying above the Swiss Alps. The bird apparently took the drone out of the air, like a predator hunting for prey. This sent the drone instantly crashing down, hundreds of feet below the mountainside. The eagle attack was so severe that the remains of the drone was impossible to recover. Now that is a hit.
The drone could not see the light of rescue for two reasons. One, the drone flew in a dangerous area and it is easy to get lost in it. Retrieving the drone parts was not a very good idea. And two, being that the bird took it out of flight, it fell hard, hundreds of feet from the air. It is almost likely that the drone would be nothing more than scrap metal after that.
The owner of the drone, Timon Beutel, managed to retrieve the video however, so at least his drone’s demise were not in vain. Still, no use crying over spilled milk, so at least the world can enjoy a video of the incident. Bye bye expensive drone.
This gives us a good reality check on technology. Although amazing in their own right, drones still have a long way to go. They still require fully functioning parts to stay afloat in the air. Any damage to its vulnerable parts such as propellers or wings, could instantly send it crashing. So it would still be a good idea to keep a close eye on your drone. Especially when flying, as it can easily hit incoming obstacles and make your investment disappear in seconds.
