Drone Owner Fined $600 On Near-Collision Incident

When it comes to police chases, everyone’s attention always follows the events. Whether on the TV, radio, or updates online, a famous police chase involving cars, money, and danger seem to get everyone excited. Everyone wants to know the story; people want to take a peek at the happenings.

With the rise of drone technology, civilians found a new and even more versatile form of snooping. An eye in the sky, flying with no obstacles, ready to get all the action on camera – welcome to the world of drones. Well, a man in Cambridgeshire, England may not be so happy after he used his drone in the middle of a police operation.

Man in the Drone Zone Fined

The police in the area was in search of a missing woman. They used a helicopter to get better visual of the area around River Nene. Unfortunately, the man flew his drone under the helicopter, risking the lives of both the passengers and the people around the area. The man used his DJI Phantom 4 to get a closer look, which led to the incident.

In emergency situations requiring air support from responders, drones are not allowed anywhere near the area. Aside from the risk of crashing, the drone makes it impossible for any other aircraft to fly in the area. This impedes the responders, which directly makes the situation worse. The man was subject to legal action and received a fine of £460 or nearly $600.

Was the fine worth it? Or was it enough to instill some sort of regulation regarding drone users? While it has been highly debated in the past on what the proper course of actions are, in actuality the laws never receive any significant attention. This particular incident was one of the first actual fined offenses for a drone user in the country.
