And here we have more news that ruin the image for drone owners everywhere.
A man in Springfield, Oregon is currently under investigation after his drone crashed and started a fire. The fire started after the drone crashed into the ground and burst into flames. Here’s the plot twist in this fairly typical incident: apparently the dog caused it all. Yes, a furry pup is being blamed for the whole fiasco.
Dog Trouble:
It is a fairly dry climate this time of year at Springfield, and fires can burst out with the most minimum of ignitions. Apparently the small sparks created by a crashed drone was enough to instigate a moderate wild fire.
The owner was flying the drone one afternoon when suddenly a dog attacked him out of nowhere. The dog then knocked the controller out of his hands, causing the chain reaction. Without the controls, the drone came crashing back down to earth.
Sparks flew, and before he knew it, a fire has already started. Quickly thinking, he called the local fire department via 911 and it was all sorted out. No damage (apart from the drone) observed so this story ends with a happy ending. Both the dog and the person reported no injuries after the whole kerfuffle.
Let this be a lesson to all you drone flyers out there. Unexpected things can happen while the drone is in flight. Birds can come and create obstacles when flying. Distractions may occur nearby causing you to lose focus for a second. A constant eye contact is necessary when flying drones. It is one of the most important rules and guidelines when flying your recreational device. Losing sight of a drone – even for a second – can lead to crashes and damage. Damage not only to the drone, but to the people and the environment around it. Hopefully this drone owner learned his lesson from his canine experience. Drones are fun, but they can also create damage if mishandled.
