The difference is that this drone has a built-in AI algorithm that helps detect crocodiles specifically. The first few of these flying drones started patrolling in Cairns, Queensland.
The Croc Spotter program rose to significance because of some fatal crocodile attacks that happened in the last few years. While it may seem like a small number, any fatal croc attack should be a cause for concern.
Accuracy and Reach
Once the Croc Spotter finds a croc in the vicinity, it then sends a signal out to operators informing them of the creature. The authorities can then divert people from ever encountering these beasts. Zero encounters – zero chances of a croc attack. The Croc Spotter is incredibly accurate. The AI algorithm boasts a 93% accuracy – beating human spotting techniques by a mile (15% accurate).
With areas having lower visibility, weather conditions making it harder to detect these animals, a drone in the sky is the best bet for a safe course.
