Crime fighting has arrived in the modern era. With new tools at their disposal such as thermal cameras and video recording, criminals have nowhere to hide.
And with drones taking on the field as first responders, injuries and casualties for law enforcement people are lower than ever. What can we say about drones? Well, drones act amazingly as scouts before the police go into an area. A high ground, as well as sensitive cameras make quick work of spotting criminals. Recording devices also make it possible to review the scene of the crime and check if they missed anything.
It’s not like drones can apprehend criminals though. And it is also improbable that drones can exchange fire against armed robbers. But what the drone can do is to scout an area to give as much information about the scene as possible. This can help officers immensely and prevent them from going into a possibly dangerous area blind.
Colombian Police and the Drone Rise:
In the Richland County of Columbia, a drone has been making heads turn. This week the police drone helped in capturing an armed culprit that aimed shots at police officers. The felon was fleeing from a crime scene when the event took place.
The drone managed to track down the criminal while keeping police officers at a safe distance. The eye in the sky proved to be extremely valuable as the area had low visibility. This means that a shot fired could hit a responder that does not respond fast enough. The low visibility also means that anyone can easily hide amongst the environment. If the police were only there by foot, chances are the criminal may have escaped sight.
Drones are also more efficient and cheaper to call on than say, a police helicopter. The loud noise of a full-fledged chopper can easily alert targets, and they can change directions accordingly. Drones are silent and are easily deployable in the field. Considering that it is cheaper to produce, or even repair in the case of damage, it is definitely a better alternative than a heavy, loud, and slow helicopter.
