The flight capabilities are what separates the drone from other technology. They are small, compact, and can travel to places without facing a lot of trouble. This is why drones are commonly used for their vision, where firefighters, police, and even rescuers can survey an area without being there.

The online juggernaut Amazon may just have the next unique use for a drone. Amazon first announced using drones for their deliveries, giving a faster option for its customers. Now, they want drones to work as mobile data servers for places with limited bandwidth connections. The drone works like the failed Facebook drone project Aquila, which can provide internet connectivity to its vicinity. Aquila had high hopes of being the next internet hotspot. It can provide connections wirelessly for miles around. These would circulate countries, providing free internet to their areas. Sounds too good to be true, huh?
The drone Amazon proposes would work in a similar manner, making wireless connections between computers much faster. It can be a relay station for data, or it can even be some sort of electronic data carrier. Getting data from computers, then flying closer towards the central data server can make data transfer a lot faster.
Of course, do not expect these to go to your companies any time soon. The Amazon drone is still in its very early stages of development. They recently submitted paperwork for a patent for it, but so far there’s still nothing solid. But it can be an interesting idea to look at, however. There are still a lot of places where internet connectivity is slow to none. These mobile hotspots can create a more fluid flow of data, which can help businesses – big and small alike.
Amazon has patented a lot of ideas over the years. Some became a reality, while a lot more never saw the light of day. Will this drone server idea come to fruition? Or is this just Amazon making promises?
