UK Store Sale Catalog Spoils New Mavic 2 Drone Release

Spoiler alert!

For fans of DJI’s Mavic drone, the next generation has been highly anticipated. The Mavic 2 Pro drone has been the talk of drone fans for years now. DJI, the world’s largest and most popular drone company, still has not announced a date for its release. Some go so far as speculate if the highly anticipated Mavic 2 is even in production at the moment. Whenever DJI holds a press conference, all attention go towards clues for the Mavic 2. If there are delays or reschedules in DJI events, people assume it involves the mythical sequel drone.

For years now this tale of spot the clues waiting for a drone release has been, well, unfruitful. DJI so far has not announced any new progress regarding their prized drone.

As it turns out, a twist in the story blew every theory out of the water.

Mavic 2 Pro Spoiler:

A catalog for a local retailer in the United Kingdom inadvertently spoiled the surprise by putting the drone on their ads. The print-paper catalog contained a number of new releases and their specific stats and price. This included – as clear as day – an ad on the Mavic Pro 2.

Of course, with the cat out of the bag, DJI had no choice but to confirm the Mavic Pro 2’s existence and sale dates. Apparently, the mix-up happened after DJI postponed a recent July 18 event. This is where speculation livened up regarding the Mavic 2’s progress. But because the event cancellation was last minute, the UK store Argos did not have enough time to edit their catalog listings. Hence, the print and spoiler for the whole world to see.

Avid readers pointed it out almost immediately, along with the advertised specs and price. The Mavic 2 offers 31 minutes of flight time with an 8 kilometer radius for a range. It has 2 variations, the Mavic 2 Zoom and Mavic 2 Pro. The 2 Pro offers omnidirectional obstacle sensing, which was unofficially announced after another leak earlier this month. The cameras built on the drones also offer 1080p video recording, as well as enhanced zoom functions.

Of course, DJI did not plan to reveal their new creation this way. With the surprise out of the way, did the reveal live up to the multi-year hype?
