Ireland Drone Successfully Delivers Parcel to Island

In the world of Delivery Drones, a lone drone in Ireland is making headlines.

The delivery drone successfully dropped off a parcel this week from a pier to an island. This marks a first in drone delivery as most testing occurred within cities and communities. It is a major breakthrough that a drone managed to go successfully without landing over large bodies of water. This greatly improves confidence in drones making the trips involving water. This is exponentially the case in Ireland.

Ireland First:

The postal service An Post from Ireland was behind this endeavor. Like other postal services and delivery companies worldwide, An Post have started testing the waters for drone use. The experimental trip started in the mainland, with the package dropped off at the Roonagh Pier. The target destination was Clare Island. The experiment finished without a hitch, giving positive response to the idea. What normally takes 15-20 minutes by boat, the drone managed to do in half the time. This opens a wide variety of uses, especially ones that require speed.

Medical deliveries for one, would be more plausible especially for the remote islands. Of course there is your usual mail or parcel delivery, which would cut down waiting time. But drones are creeping their way through the mail system. Taking over one sector after another. It would not be at all surprising in the least if drones replace land, air, and sea transports fully.

But for now, companies worldwide are still looking for glitches and parts to fix in this system. While faster, drones have more limitations. Battery life is a main concern, so distance is limited. This means a drone may have to go from center to center, to get close enough to its target destination. It can use the centers as fueling stations, while it scales towards your door.
