An electronics engineer in California created a customized drone that has a unique flight mechanism. It is not a quadcopter; in fact, it consists of multiple drones merged into one. It merges nine different drones together to create a final drone the size of a small plane. The drones work together in flight, and create a sort of ‘flapping wing’ movement to get around. The best part of this design is that it makes it a lot more versatile and durable than the average drone. With lots of moving parts and not a single ‘solid’ exterior, it can bend with the winds and can create enough surface if it crashes.
Introducing the Flex Plane
The Flex Plane offers something new to the table. It is cheaper to make than most drones these days, and is far more durable. The drone can also fly at high speeds and at a long time, to boot. It flies like a bird, flapping and flexing its wings with the movement of the different drones merged in it.
For future plans, the Flex Plane is not done yet – not even close. With currently only having nine drones merged, the minds behind this drone want even more drones in it. The great thing about it is the fact that it is very cheap to create. This means an increase in production is not very damaging to the overall price and budget concerns. Budget is something of an issue, especially for smaller startups when it comes to drone technology.
With these in mind, it can be a great sign for smaller startups in the drone industry to start making their own devices. Having a cheap and versatile way to fly drones can be a great thing, especially when it comes to businesses that need a more inexpensive way to monitor their areas.
