Flying Rescuer: Dubai’s Newest Lifeguard Recruit

It seems the coasts and beaches of Dubai will be a lot safer from now on. The local government recently added a custom drone that was built specifically for lifeguard duties.

Flying Rescuer Reporting for Duty

The Flying Rescuer is a highly mobile drone with a lot of potential. The drone can do what a lifeguard can at a fraction of the time. These include:

  • Being able to find and get close to targets in the open waters in a short time span
  • Has 2 cameras onboard, and can livestream its vision from up to a kilometer away
  • Can drop up to 4 lifebuoy rings for people needing help
  • Drone can carry up to a maximum of 4, and must return to get more
  • Each lifebuoy can support 2 people, giving the Flying Rescuer a potential saving capacity of up to 8 drowning victims at a time
  • Can carry 8kg of load
  • Phenomenal speed; can reach 300 meters within 5 seconds
  • Flight time of over 30 minutes, giving enough period for search and rescue if the person is missing in the open waters
  • Cameras capable of high quality image snapshots and recordings, as well as zoom
  • Thermal cameras make locating people in the open seas much easier
  • Flying Rescuer also can create a significant enough light source to guide rescuers and or the victims themselves and guide them to safety

In Conclusion

Overall, the Flying Rescuer is a great addition to Dubai’s coastguard. With it in their arsenal, as well as plans for making more of them, the waters can be a safer place. That is not all, however. Even more plans to spread this creation to other cities, and countries for that matter, may soon follow. While this does tackle picking priority targets when multiple incidents are happening, the speed and efficiency still outweigh the numbers problem. Hopefully, with more manufactured soon, cases of people lost at sea or drowning scenarios can decrease dramatically.
