Mavic 2 Review: Pro and Zoom May Be DJI’s Most Powerful Creations Yet

After a rather embarrassing incident last month regarding a UK tech shop spoiling their big reveal, the company DJI finally unveils their newest drone.

Their newest drone, the Mavic 2, has been highly anticipated ever since the release of its predecessor over two years ago. Now, with all the hype built up, the question remains: can the Mavic 2 live up to all the excitement?

The short answer, is unsurprisingly, a well-earned yes.

Their reveal is two-fold, with DJI offering two different beasts from the same line. The Mavic 2 Pro and the Mavic 2 Zoom share many traits, but also deviate in more specialized areas.

The Mavic 2 Review: Cameras Galore

Both the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom boast powerful cameras which can easily record 4k videos. They also have foldable frames to increase its portability. Those familiar with the original Mavic can recognize similar features in the physical design of the drone.

The main difference between the two exist in their specific cameras.

The Mavic 2 Pro is special, in that it comes with an incredibly unique Hasselblad camera. It is a superior 20 megapixel camera with a lot of history for being in extreme conditions – while still getting the shot needed. If this camera can take photos under the darkness of the ocean, as well as in the desolate areas of the moon, you can be sure it can cater to your needs – no matter the lighting.

The Mavic 2 Zoom, as you may deduce from the name, focuses (no pun intended) more on the camera’s zoom functionality. The Zoom offers an incredibly powerful 12 megapixel camera with its very own optical zoom function. The camera for the Zoom claims to replicate the quality of a 96mm telephoto lens. This means having 96mm of zoom focal length, an unprecedented ability not seen from past drones.

Of course, the Mavic 2 has a lot more potential to offer to aspiring photographers, filmmakers, or camera men. With both drones’ cameras, you can be sure to get the most out of every scene. Video or photo, you can always be sure to get the perfect shot.

Adding to the already numerous accolades of the cameras, the Mavic 2 is still not done.

The Mavic 2 also offer modes that improve your camera work. With the new hyperlapse ability for more exposure shots, one can easily take high quality footage from the skies above. Another feature is dolly zoom camera shot. These effects often create an amazing effect onscreen, while also showcasing the quality of image around them.

DroneAddicts.net Verdict

I mean, we can talk all day about the high quality both these drones showcase. But an entire article cannot summarize the true extent of their abilities. Both drones offer an entirely new world of aerial footage. With high quality cameras, as well as powerful – and smart – drones to carry them, you can go to great heights for your footage.

The main problem, as with anything in life, is price. There is always a direct correlation between price and quality. With DJI’s newest creations, they know they nailed the quality, and are now charging accordingly. If you can spend over a thousand dollars on a drone, then you are getting a very advanced model which can last a long period of time. Yes, it may take some time for everyone else to catch up to the DJI Mavic 2, so if you want an investment for your future drone needs, you are in the right place.
