Drones are capable of many things. They can soar high into the air while capturing break taking snapshots while doing so. They can record videos at an angle impossible to get via normal means. Drones can also light up the night sky and form patterns and presentations that rival those of fireworks. Drones can even act as first responders to emergency situations. Yes, from carrying packages, to delivering goods at a fast rate; these flying devices have unlimited potential at the right hands.
An event near a remote camping area in Malheur County, Oregon gives us a look at what a drone can do behind creative thinking. A drone recently helped in rescuing a hiker who became sick while in a remote area. The event wasn’t exactly one from a science fiction movie. The drone did not simply carry the person from his starting position to safety.

The person asking for help apparently became sick while on a hiking trail. Suffering from severe vomiting and dehydration, the hiker could not do anything but scream. He could not even move himself due to lack of energy. Water sources were in the area but he could not get to them. So he screamed. A stroke of luck followed as a drone owner heard the calls and quickly tried to help.
The drone owner, since supplies were not abundant and means of crossing the water took a while, sent a drone. The drone delivered pen and some paper, asking the trapped hiker what he needed. This opened up communication. In a time where mobile phones and wireless communication ruled the stratosphere, here they were messaging via paper mail. Delivered by a drone, no less. It was truly a sight to see.
After the drone’s owner learned the full extent of the situation, he immediately went to areas with phone signals. He then called the Sheriff’s Office, who then dispatched Search and Rescue units. They took a boat to the area and found the hiker. He then went to a local medical facility for treatment.
So in the end this story has a happy ending, all thanks to quick thinking and utilizing a drone to its fullest. True, a drone may not carry a lot of weight, nor can it fly indefinitely in the skies. But drones still have a lot of potential if the wielder knows what to do.
