For a while now, selfie drones have existed for users to take advantage of. Some models do nothing but follow the pilot around, filming and photographing along the way just to capture the pilot going about daily tasks.
At CES, several selfie drones were on display, including the Hover Camera Passport. The Hover Camera Passport has many pros, including the fact that its rotors are encased in a plastic cage, protecting its rotors as well as the people and property around it.
The Passport’s camera is impressive, boasting 13-megapixel image quality and 4K film resolution. Pilots also won’t have to register their selfie drone with the FAA, because the drone is so small and lightweight. The drone can track people’s movements using facial recognition, as well as location information it obtains from a smartphone app that pilots can control.
This drone is also a perfect fit for people who would like to enter the world of drone technology, but don’t want to spend the money on a more advanced drone. The Passport can fly up to 17mph, and should be within 20 meters of your smartphone so that it can be controlled easily. It has a short battery life, and has a battery life of about 10 minutes per charge.
The Passport is up for sale at $599, a surprising amount considering that it’s just a small selfie drone. Several of DJI’s drones are up for cheaper prices than this, but for those who want to invest in capturing their daily lives via drone selfies, the Passport seems like a good choice.
