Bike It or Take the Car? The Omni Calculator Will Tell You

I recently started biking to work because my place of work is only 3.5 kilometers away from my home. I was trying to calculate how much money I’d save by riding a bicycle but I know my calculations were not very accurate. Regardless of how much money I was saving, I know that I’m helping the environment and my health. But if you are really interested in getting an idea of exactly what contributions you’re making, then you definitely need to check out the Omni Calculator

The calculator is simple to use and you simply plug in a few numbers and it will do the rest for you. This whole time you knew you were doing some good but this will give you the bigger picture. The calculator will tell you how much CO2 and NOx has been reduced thanks to your efforts. And while we’re at it, the calculator will also tell you what those CO2 and NOx reductions mean in terms of “trees planted equivalent”. For my 3.5km bike commute to work (and 3.5km back home), it’s equivalent to planting 11 trees per year. And of course, one of the other reasons we bike to save some money on petrol. It will also tell you how much you’ve added to your life expectancy!

The numbers are not exact so keep that in mind. I’ll share some of my stats below so you can see just how beneficial riding a bike to work is or non-beneficial (depending on the person). Everyone has different goals and requirements. Make sure you have a look the Car vs Bike Calculator.
